Over the past week, I’ve started writing on Medium and sharing somewhat intimate stories about how my life, and in particular, my sex life, have evolved over the past five years since my husband, Jamie, had his rugby accident.
If you’ve not read the beginning of that story and you want to, then click here and give that a read if you’re interested in having a bit of background.
My plan for Medium is to share more transformative stories and events from my past that have shaped the person that I’ve become. I might also dabble a bit into what it means to be a working mother and a married woman who is exploring the sexual elements of herself.
A big part of why I joined Medium as a writer was because I wanted to write more, which is something that I enjoy.
The problem that I’ve identified already is that there are only so many impactful stories that I can write for the Medium audience before I run out of ideas or I become one of those people who shares her opinions on the latest Harry and Megan update or how Kobe Bryant impacted me.
That kind of thing doesn’t interest me as a reader, so I can’t imagine it would interest me enough to write it, but if you buy into the whole model of Medium, then you have to publish all the time.
There’s the rub. I want to write regularly, but I kind of want to write about things that interest me or about my life in a more general sense.
Which then leads to the question - “Am I interesting enough that people would want to read about my day-to-day experiences?”
You have to be somewhat narcissistic or, as the young kids say, “thirsty” to answer that question with a confident, “YES!”
At the end of the day, I’ve landed back onto the idea that I want to write for myself first and foremost, so I’m going to put it out there and if people are interested, then they can sign up and read it, or not, but either way, I’m going to do what interests me and hope I can entertain people enough that they keep coming back to read more.
I’m loathe to call this a “blog” or a “journal”, so let’s stick with calling it a collection of thoughts and experiences. Some of which will be personal and poignant, whereas others might just be observational curiosity points.
My preference would be to write these posts daily, but I’m not going to lock myself into that kind of schedule because life throws curveballs at you. Also, I think with my personality, if I commit myself to writing here daily, then I will, but quality might suffer and that would be horrible for all of us.
So I’m going to write regularly when I have something that I want to share.
I am looking forward to this journey!
